CVIndependent.com: Community Voices: Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills Has Exhibited True Leadership Via Both His Words and Actions

Rob Wilcox authored this opinion piece for CVIndependent.com dated December 14, 2024:

In recent weeks, Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills has demonstrated how the right words and decisive actions can serve as a source of comfort, unity and reassurance in challenging times. In just a few days, Chief Mills showcased a leadership style that blends empathy with accountability, proving the profound impact of thoughtful communication backed by meaningful deeds.

Two distinct events illustrate Chief Mills’ approach to leadership. The first occurred during a city of Palm Springs forum to address community concerns in the wake of Donald Trump’s presidential re-election. The forum allowed residents to share their anxieties, learn about the city’s safety efforts, and engage with local leadership.

Taking the stage, Chief Mills delivered a poignant message: “We have a choice, and the choice is we can stand strong, or we can be filled with anxiety. I say together, shoulder to shoulder, and hip to hip, let’s stand strong.”

DesertSun.com: Riverside County will get 4 new judges to cope with case backlogs and dismissals

Excerpted from DesertSun.com dated October 10, 2023:

Riverside County is expected to get four new judges thanks to a law just signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom to address judicial shortages that have contributed to case backlogs and the dismissal early this year of almost 2,000 criminal cases.

They won’t get that many any time soon. The new law will mean 26 new judges statewide, likely four of them for Riverside County and five for San Bernardino County, said Robert Wilcox, a spokesman for the bill’s sponsor, Sen. Richard Roth. The exact number for each county could change, Wilcox added.

Riverside County has 75 judges and 14 court commissioners, according to the latest figures provided by the court in May. (Commissioners are judicial officers who preside over minor cases.)

Roth, D-Riverside, introduced SB 75 in January, requesting the authorization of more judges and making specific reference to the need of the two Inland Empire counties. Wilcox said the Judicial Council of California created criteria to determine how many judges go to which counties.

LATimes.com: Column: Did Wells Fargo target seniors with its bogus-account scheme?

Excerpted from LATimes.com dated September 27, 2016:

Wells Fargo may have gone out if its way to take senior citizens to the cleaners when the bank’s workers fraudulently opened as many as 2 million accounts without customers’ permission.

Rob Wilcox, a spokesman for Los Angeles City Atty. Mike Feuer, who sued Wells Fargo over the bogus accounts last year, said it’s hard to determine how many of the bank’s victims were seniors.

“While we found examples where seniors who were Wells Fargo customers were victims, we do not have information on how widespread the practice was or whether they were targeted for this practice,” he said.
